Call for Submissions
Future Medicine is looking for submissions of new unpublished ecofiction in four categories:
- Flash and short-short fiction up to 1,500 words for publication on the Future Medicine website’s Biozine page
- Children’s literature and Young Adult speculative ecofiction up to 60,000 words for exclusive stand-alone or series publication by Future Medicine
- Short-medium (i.e. 1,501-59,999 words) ecofiction for the Future Medicine anthology publication
- Novels of 60,000 words and up for exclusive stand-alone or series publication by Future Medicine
Novels are automatically entered into consideration for the Future Medicine Ecofiction Prize, which will be judged by scientific plausibility, literary quality, and compelling and inspirational ideas for habitat restoration and integration.
General Guidelines
Original (unpublished, unsubmitted, never uploaded) English language speculative ecofiction is eligible. See About for description of new genre.
Narratives of care and cure of life by doctors of life that speculate on the near future (i.e. next 100 years) are especially welcome, as are narratives of effective conscientious communities (e.g. residential and school).
Experimental literary forms not recommended; new-to-fiction ideas and methods highly recommended.

Category 1
Flash and short-short fiction under 1,500 words.

- Upload plain text title and body. If accepted, content will be formatted per Bioflash stylesheet
- Expect reply within one month
- If your account has an incorrect email address, our response will not reach you and we will know that is has not. Please note that our reply goes to the email address you use to log in.
Categories 2-4
Longer pieces must be submitted as hard copy, please contact us for more info. You may submit more than one piece. However many words you submit, please include payment of $10.00 per one thousand words (or portion of one thousand words) by check or money order made out to Living Future Books LLC. Fees are not refundable. Do not submit handwritten text.
Due to U.S. Government restrictions we are unable to accept entries from Syria, Iran, North Korea, or Crimea.
Include with your submission a cover letter with your contact details (including email address and phone number) as well as a brief synopsis of each item. If you submit art work, as for illustrations, please keep originals and send duplicates.
Materials will not be returned.
Publication will be by contract and may be conditional on revision or redesign.
